Would a Patient Let the Wife of the Surgeon Operate?
Experience with Accents
Part One of a series of stories examining the “experience” of the former First Lady. The Hillary Clinton Experience.
A story appeared a few days ago in the Iowa Gazette’s on-line site entitled “Bill Clinton praises Hillary’s Experience, Knowledge”. The Gazette circulation is primarily in eastern Iowa (Cedar Rapids and Iowa City).
At one time or another, Bill Clinton has campaigned for several of the 2008 Democratic presidential hopefuls running in Iowa.
But the one he’s working for this year and is asking Iowa Democrats to caucus for Jan. 3 is the “most qualified non-incumbent I’ve ever supported,” the former president said Friday as he stumped across Eastern Iowa for his wife, Hillary Clinton.
Among the people who showed up to hear the former president speak, were Earl and Patricia.
Earl was impressed with Ms. Clinton because of he’s convinced that the former First Lady will shake things up.
“She’s for change,” explained Earl, who will be a first-time caucusgoer.
Patricia liked the fact that Clinton was “experienced”.
“And she has the experience,” Patricia added.
Experience is a word the Clinton campaign has been throwing around quite a bit lately. “Experience” is used in Iowa like card players use the Jack of trump (right bower, right bar, jack) in a game of euchre; i.e., nothing beats it.
DBKP thought we’d look a little bit closer at the “experience” that we’ve been hearing so much about from the Clinton campaign.
Little Baby Ginn is putting together a story of just exactly what that experience consists of for Ms. Clinton.
We’re not going to step on LBG’s toes, but we did want to point out a couple things.
First a few questions:
If Patricia was being wheeled into brain surgery, would she feel comfortable if told that the doctor could not make it, but that the doctor’s wife had agreed to perform the operation?
If Patricia was flying from Des Moines to Chicago and a voice came on over the intercom and announced, “The normally-scheduled pilot is sick, we’re letting the pilot’s wife fly the plane to the Windy City today.” Would she get up to leave the plane and wait for another?
If Patricia’s car broke down and needed repairing, would she take it to the wife of the mechanic? Would it make her feel better if the wife told her, “I’ve seen it done,” or “I’ve watched while it was being done”?
Does it qualify as “experience” if you watch someone else do something? Does it qualify as your experience if you were there while an event took place?
We’re just asking.
Another thing we wanted to point out was included in Ms. Clinton’s experience is her apparent command of language and dialect.
Attached as a comment to the Iowa Gazette story was the following:
It’s been over a year since a stupid comment by George Allen brought down his Senate campaign and any hopes for a 2008 presidential run.
However, when Hillary Clinton made similarly stupid comments, that are recorded on YouTube (http://youtube.com/watch?v=e1Mq8kOXV_E) why is she treated like the teflon queen?
I can’t imagine a President in the 21st century that finds humor in racist jokes. It would be a very sad statement on us if we decided to overlook her racism and voted her into office.
We found the video in question. It’s short (under a minute) and illustrates what the above reader was talking about.
And one more short one (slightly over a minute) in which Clinton demonstrates her abilities with speech.
There are many, many videos on YouTube which show the former First Lady at less than her best. One has over 4.3 million views.
But they are for another time. This story is about the Clinton Experience.
Exactly what is Hillary Clinton’s “experience”?
What does it consist of?
We’ve done a listing of Hillary Clinton quotes several weeks back and a comment was quickly attached questioning both the motive and the truthfulness of the quotes.
The quotes were all clearly sourced: either to Clinton appearances on major news programs or were taken from public events in which she had been quoted by newspapers.
We questioned the comment at the time: how quickly it had been attached to both of the stories, both at DBKP and BNN. We expect to get more of that.
It may just be part of the Clinton Experience.
